The disease psoriasis is equally common in both men and women. Often people suffering from this disease find it in themselves in childhood. the reasons influencing the onset of psoriasis in people suffering from various diseases or not complaining of poor health are very different, since psoriasis refers to skin diseases of a multifactorial nature. The intensity, degree and frequency of the disease can also differ significantly depending on the general state of human health, the activity of external or internal stimuli that provoke the onset of the disease.  

First, let’s explain what it is – psoriasis. These are visible inflammatory disorders of the skin that occur in various parts of the body due to infectious, hereditary, neurogenic, endocrine disorders, digestive problems, an imbalance of metabolic processes in the body, and weakened immunity. In addition, scientists have arguably proved the genetic predisposition of people to this disease. That is, if someone in the family suffered from psoriasis, the risk of recurrence of the problem in the offspring increases much. When twins are born in a family, and one of them is sick with psoriasis, there is a high probability (up to 70%) that the second will manifest this disease sooner or later.

More often, psoriasis affects only the upper integument (skin), but more recently, cases of damage to some internal organs (liver, kidneys) have been known. Psoriatic plaques appear all over the body, more often on the elbows and knees, thighs and abdomen, and also on the neck. Psoriasis is plaque-like, pustular, teardrop-shaped, psoriasis of nails, as well as psoriasis of flexion surfaces. Severe stress, illness, decreased immunity, alcohol abuse, smoking, food allergies and many other factors can aggravate the onset of psoriasis . Eating fried, spicy and fatty foods also contributes to the exacerbation of the disease.  

How does psoriasis occur, what are its symptoms?

Usually psoriasis is localized on the skin of the joints of the lower and upper extremities. There are frequent cases of psoriatic plaques on the head (scalp, forehead, ears, neck). When the nails of the hands and feet are affected by psoriasis, they exfoliate, as with nail fungus, and change color to yellow.

At the initial stage of the disease, large pink or red plaques form on the body, the surface of which is covered with silvery-white scales. Skin cells in these metas begin to divide excessively, with further accumulation of keratinized particles, which the body is no longer able to get rid of. This, in fact, explains that inside the psoriatic plaques have a loose, easily traumatized structure, prone to burning and acute itching.

The sites of localization and the intensity of the development of the disease depend on many factors, which we have already mentioned above. For example, teardrop psoriasis got its name due to the nature of the rash – small plaques appear all over the body, almost simultaneously, the skin in these metas itches so much that it can cause the patient to feel unreasonable irritation, sleep disturbances, fever and other unpleasant side symptoms …

How is psoriasis treated?

Psoriasis is an individual disease, and it manifests itself in each patient differently. In some, plaques are poured out almost simultaneously, very quickly, in others for a long time. First, there is a sharp exacerbation of the disease, then a period of treatment follows, and then a sharp decline, turning into a chronic stage.

First of all, you should consult a dermatologist. When psoriasis occurs, doctors attribute complex treatment, in which various methods and means are used, including antihistamines, such as claritin, claratodin, loratadine, suprastin, diazolin, telfast, etc. Hormonal ointments are also prescribed – afloderm, triderm, celestoderm, acriderm … They are used to treat various types of psoriasis and modern medical technologies, as well as many recipes of traditional medicine.
