This horrible itch with psoriasis! How to get rid of it?

Psoriasis is an incurable skin disease in which pink spots appear on the body, characterized by increased desquamation. Most often, psoriasis is accompanied by itching, and only 20% of the lucky ones have never encountered it. In this case, itching is of varying degrees – from moderate to one that interferes with a normal lifestyle. So, an irresistible desire to scratch the site affected by psoriasis often leads to bleeding, and subsequently to greater sensitivity of the nerve endings. And because of this, the feeling of itching only intensifies.

Pink spots on the body from psoriasis are called plaques and can appear anywhere on the body. Often, psoriasis occurs in the folds of the skin, on the nails, and even in the scalp. And if the disease goes away with itching, it brings discomfort to both the patient and others. The good news is that itching can be eliminated, but for this it is necessary to find out the cause of its occurrence.

Causes of itching

The main cause of itching in a psoriasis patient is an excess of free radicals in the skin tissues. Exceeding the norm, they lead to dryness and keratinization of the skin, from which, in fact, itching occurs. A person’s sensitivity to pain has a significant effect on the appearance of itching. Stress, depression, various chemicals and foods weaken the body, thereby increasing the desire to scratch. At the same time, isolation of the patient from contact with irritants leads to a decrease in itching.

The most common factor that aggravates itching is food, which causes an allergic reaction in the body. Spicy and fatty foods, fish, coffee, tea and chocolate, meat and alcoholic beverages can cause another outbreak of the disease, and, consequently, itching.

Rashes and itching in psoriasis in most cases are caused by a side effect of diseases already existing in the body, such as diabetes mellitus, diseases of the nervous and endocrine systems, liver and blood vessels, and gastrointestinal diseases.

The use of medications and skin contact with chemicals are no exception in the appearance of itching. Harmful working conditions also play a big role in this.

As soon as the cause of psoriasis and the accompanying itching is found, the patient is isolated from “harmful” contacts. But, even having eliminated the root cause, there is no guarantee that itching with psoriasis will completely stop. In most cases, complex treatment is necessary to completely eliminate the symptoms of the disease.

Elimination of itching with psoriasis

In order to get rid of the unpleasant feeling of itching, it is necessary to use external psoriasis treatment. Local therapy means ultraviolet radiation, ultrasound, cryotherapy, the use of various ointments, creams, etc.

To moisturize the skin, lotion is applied to the skin several times a day. Removing inflammation, treatment with mineral waters shows good results. In folk medicine, dill, nettle and elecampane are used to eliminate itching in psoriasis . Also, an infusion of valerian and thyme is used to relieve itching.

There are many ways to eliminate itching in psoriasis. The main thing is not to despair and find what is actually right for you. And remember, in order to forget for a long time about the desire to comb psoriatic plaques before blood, you need to obey the doctor’s recommendations and carry out the prescribed treatment according to all the rules. Well, in addition, you need to eat right, lead a healthy lifestyle, not get nervous over trifles and try not to come into contact with those things that can provoke an exacerbation of the disease.
